There are thousands of sites of historical, cultural, heritage and cultural interest in the world that are threatened by different causes.
On these sites, it is urgent to act quickly in order to preserve the memory of endangered heritage sites. In this case, 2D visualization is not sufficient and it is necessary to digitize those sites in 3D. The importance of the digitisation work of these sites has been one of the most burning issues of our time, with a particular focus on the Syrian heritage and the Palmyra site. The objective of BIG 3D project is to allow the visualization in the browser of “large scenes” in 3D, with an integrated temporal and semantic dimension. From a technical point of view, the project involves three significant innovations:
1. The integration of a temporal dimension into 3D models obtained by photogrammetry
2. Semantization of these models in order to automatically integrate other types of 2D resources (drawings, texts, etc.)
3. The visualization of these very large temporal and semantic models in the browser
