Memorising digital resources and activities

The MEMORIA project is a long-term project aimed at developing an information system for describing, structuring and archiving the digital resources produced in our laboratory. The underlying aim of the project is to memorise not only a result – i.e. a digital resource – but also and above all its production history, in other words the way in which this result was obtained.
The digital resources produced will be described using a list of traditional descriptors such as format, authors, production date, etc., and will also be associated with processes (a concept to be understood as chains of activities). Each process will keep track of the institutional framework in which the work took place (organisations, projects, staff employed, etc.), the primary sources used in the analysis phase, and the techniques and tools used to produce the digital resources.
A central point in the approach adopted to develop MEMORIA is the desire to develop visual interfaces that facilitate access to digital resources and enable detailed analysis of the information contained in the database. These interfaces should, for example, give access to the results of queries on digital resources sorted by subject of study, project, production process, etc. but also show the evolution of working methods or techniques used over time, the types of activities mobilised to produce a resource, etc.
Ultimately, the project aims to associate any digital resource (e.g. 3D model, 2D cartography, reference directory) with a series of descriptors making it possible to retrace all the actions taken to produce it, and therefore to memorise, beyond a ‘final’ digital document, a cognitive process, or at least a production process.
